Our puppies all come from working, proven, titled breeding stock which have
been
checked and are clear of hereditary diseases. Our puppies are registered
with the CKC and come with health guarantees. Their tails are docked and
dewclaws are removed. Our puppies are capable of tackling show, field
and any variation of obedience. These puppies are raised in our home, with
plenty of love and attention. Since we have a limited number of litters per
year (1 or 2), we are able to
spend an abundant amount of quality time rearing the litter. They are very
well socialized prior to going to homes, have been introduced to upland game
birds and are very comfortable in the great outdoors. Many have even
splashed,
played and learned to swim with their mother, in the lake up at our cottage.
They tend to be very outgoing, confident and have each developed their own
special personality. The puppies have an abundance of natural ability, which
makes training much easier and enjoyable.
We encourage our puppy buyers to stay in touch and make available to them field training and other assistance. Recently, we have started a newsletter that we send out to all our puppy owners, as another means of staying in touch and providing information. We strive to ensure that our quality puppies go to quality homes where they will be loved and also where they can grow and develop into their fullest potential. Our puppies are sold by reservation to approved homes only. Through our application program, homes are selected after a series of questionnaires; screening and interviews are completed. We have a package prepared about our kennel, stud dogs, breeding program and litters.
In general, Shorthairs are a very active breed. They require daily
exercise. The Shorthair loves to run, swim and play. They have a very short
coat, which requires minimal grooming. Due to the short coat, you must be
careful in extreme weather. They can sunburn in direct extended exposure to
the sun (ultra violet rays) and they can freeze if they are exposed to
severe cold and wind chill of winter. They make excellent family pets and
are great
with children. They just love to be with people, whether inside or
out. It is recommended that they be raised as house pets as opposed to
outside dogs. Shorthairs are very devoted and loyal. Once they have bonded
with their owner they make excellent watchdogs (They will put on quite a
show, while wagging their tail at the same time!). Shorthairs are quite
intelligent and generally are quick learners. They strive to please and are
very sensitive. They have a very keen nose and strong hunting abilities.
Even a blowing leaf can become a distraction and game for a puppy.

Shorthair owners enjoy the great outdoors, are active and think of their pet as one of the family. Before considering owning any pet, you must first carefully evaluate yourself; how much spare time do you have, how much room do you have to own and exercise a pet, how much time are you willing to invest, your activity level and finally are you able to commit the next 8 to 15 years to a pet that totally depends on you?
We encourage potential puppy buyers to search for a puppy that matches their
particular needs and requirements. If you wish to hunt; ensure that the
lineage your puppy comes from actually is a working line -
many lines have bred hunting and swimming out of their stock. Every
generation you go back in the line without actual working dogs - the harder
it will be to get it back! Be diligent and willing to wait to get exactly
what you want. This dog will spend the next 10 or more years with you so
don't rush into ownership and not get exactly what you are looking for just
for the sake of getting a puppy/dog right away. Beware of that cute puppy in
a box that you just cannot resist - make sure it is everything you desire.
All puppies are cute but not all puppies are the same! Don't buy a Porsche
if you need a family van!
